August 24 stuff

Aug. 7 only 7 members of the club went to Blanchard Springs Caverns. They had a great day and took lots of pictures.

July 2010 news

Spring River Gem and Mineral Club (SRGMC)
January 1971 the 1st meeting of SRGMC was held in Cherokee Village. Our club focuses on a wide range of sujects from geology & archeology to the lapidary arts such as cutting, polishing, silversmithing and faceting.
We meet on the 1st Thursday of each month, except January and February. The meetings are held from 10 a.m. to noon or so at the Omaha Center in Cherokee Village, Arkansas......Visitors are always welcome!
Our dues are: 1st adult in a home $15, each additional adult in home $13, Juniors $5.
You must be a member to attend field trips.
2010 Program schedule
August 5: Fossil cephalopods & the largest nautiloid in the world by Dr. Walter Manger, PhD
September 2: Diamonds by Mike Howard, MS in Geology, Geologist at Arkansas Geological Survey
October 7: American Indians with reguard to European contact by Kenton Alder, MS, Native American history
November: Christmas Party
December 2: The good, the bad & the ugly of minerals and why we should love them all and Fossils that prove nothing by SRGMC member Al Lorenzi
Field trip notes
May 29th: Eminence, MO 10 adults and 2 juniors went on the trip. We picked up lots of good stuff and had a fun time! 10 of us went to lunch and then to an old mill at Alley Springs.
June 5th: Big Creek trip was canceled due to a lot of snakes in area.
June 17, 18 : Jet, OK 8 adults made the trek to the Great Salt Plains in Oklahoma. The 1st day an OK rockhounder took us to several spots where we gathered tons of Issen glass, alabaster, holey rocks, pyramids and rattle snake eggs. That day we drove 250 miles!! The second day he took us to the Salt Plains and taught us how to uncover and retrieve fantastic salt crystal clusters.
